FAQs

What to avoid before a health screening?

Preparation is imperative before a health screening to ensure that the results of the medical tests are accurate. Below are the things to avoid and keep in mind when preparing for a health screening:

  • If fasting is required, fast at least 8 hours before your health screening appointment
This is required to ensure the accuracy of certain blood tests and imaging like ultrasound        abdomen and ultrasound liver.
  • During the fasting period, you are only allowed to drink plain water.
  • Coffee, tea, and other food and drinks are not allowed during fasting
  • Should you feel unwell prior to your health screening, please inform our clinic to reschedule your appointment

Additional instructions for women:

  • Your cervical cancer screening (pap test or HPV DNA), urine and stool tests should be done 5-7 days after the last day of your period.
  • If your period coincides with your health screening date, please inform our staff and the tests will be rearranged as the presence of blood can affect the results of the tests
  • If you are pregnant, please inform our staff
  • Ultrasound pelvis
  • If you have chosen to do an ultrasound pelvis, drink at least 3-6 glasses of water and avoid passing urine an hour before the scan, as a full bladder is required for the scan

Mammogram

  • Do not apply any deodorant, perfume, powder or cream under your arms or chest area on the day of your mammogram as it may affect the quality of the mammogram
  • Please arrange for your appointment to be at least 1 week after the last day of your period

Treadmill Test

  • Bring along appropriate attire and footwear such as exercise attire, running shoes and socks. You may consider bringing a change of clothes due to perspiration during the tests
  • Avoid taking beta-blockers at least 1-3 days before the test
  • Take a light meal before your test
  • Avoid applying lotion, oil or powder to chest
  • Exclusion criteria: heart attack, stent in place, irregular heart rhythm
How do I take a urine sample?
  • Wash your hands thoroughly
  • Start to pass urine into the toilet bowl to pass the first portion of urine away
  • After a few seconds, place the bottle into the urine stream to collect a midstream urine into a sterile urine container provided until it is half filled.
  • Do not touch the inside of the sterile bottle
  • Screw the cap tightly onto the bottle and place the bottle in the Ziploc bag provided

For ladies: please arrange for the urine test to be done 5-7 days after your period.

How do I take a stool sample?
  • Collect your stool on clean toilet paper. Ensure that the stool does not come in contact with water or urine.
  • Twist and pull the tab to take out the sampling probe from the kit.
  • Hold stick straight down and scrape up and down 2-3 times and left to right 2-3 times across the stool surface to collect a small amount of stool
  • Return the sampling probe back to the FIT kit and secure the tab by twisting it to close.
  • Avoid consuming red meat and iron supplements 3 days before the stool sample is collected

For ladies: please arrange for the stool test to be done 5-7 days after your period.

Why is medical screening important?

Medical screening is important because it can help identify health conditions or diseases before they become serious or life-threatening, as most chronic diseases have very vague symptoms, such as diabetes (e.g. frequent thirst and peeing).

Medical screening can also help to identify risk factors for certain health conditions, allowing individuals to take preventive measures to reduce their risk. For example, a person with a family history of heart disease may be advised to adopt a healthy diet and exercise regimen to reduce their risk of developing the condition.

Overall, medical screening is an important tool for maintaining good health, preventing serious health conditions, and managing diseases.

How often should I get a medical screening?

The frequency of medical screenings can vary depending on several factors, including your age, gender, family history, and overall health status. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) recommends individuals aged 18 and above to screen once a year for obesity and once every two years for hypertension; individuals aged 40 and above to screen once every three years for diabetes and high cholesterol; individuals aged 50 and above to screen once a year for colorectal cancer.

How do I select the most suitable screening package?

This depends on several factors, including your age, gender, family history, personal medical history, lifestyle factors, individual risk factors for certain diseases, and your area of concern. Our friendly team will talk to you and recommend the most suitable package that addresses your needs.

Are all the screenings done in your clinic?

It depends on the screening package you choose. Some packages can be all done in the clinic, some are not.

How long does the screening take?

Our health screening is divided into two sessions: during the first session, you will get all the necessary tests done and during the second session you will meet up with our doctor and health coach.

The first session can take anywhere from 40-120 minutes depending on the package chosen. The second session will take about 60 minutes.

Do I need to fast before the health screening?

Not always – it depends on the health screening package you choose. Our team will assist accordingly.

What should I expect during a medical screening?

While specifics depend on the screening package you choose; in general, you can expect a blood draw, physical exam, and lifestyle-related report. You will also expect some physical tests if you choose our lifestyle and 365 packages.

What is the difference between medical screening and lifestyle screening?

Medical screening is a traditional health screening that helps you understand your overall health better through blood tests. We will also take your weight, waist circumference, blood pressure and so on. A lifestyle screening looks beyond a traditional health screening as it also takes into consideration your diet, physical activity, mental health and sleep. Additionally, we also include an optional session with a health coach to help assist you on what to work on.
