RenovaLase – Vaginal Erbium Laser

Treating Vaginal Atrophy Without Hormones

Vaginal atrophy, the drying of the vaginal walls that occurs as oestrogen declines, is one of the most common and least-discussed consequences of menopause. Unlike hot flashes, which often improve over time, vaginal atrophy is a progressive condition that tends to worsen without treatment. Symptoms include dryness, discomfort or pain during intercourse, itching, burning, and increased susceptibility to urinary tract infections.

For many women, these symptoms significantly affect quality of life and intimacy – but because they are rarely discussed, many assume nothing can be done, or feel too self-conscious to raise them. Both assumptions are wrong. Effective, non-hormonal treatment exists.

RenovaLase is an Er:YAG laser treatment that stimulates regeneration of the vaginal epithelium and underlying connective tissue. By delivering controlled laser energy to the vaginal walls, it promotes new collagen production and improves tissue hydration and thickness, restoring the vaginal environment to a healthier, more comfortable state.

For women who cannot or prefer not to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT), RenovaLase is a clinically validated non-hormonal alternative.

How RenovaLase Works

The Er:YAG laser delivers gentle SMOOTH-mode laser pulses to the inner lining of the vaginal walls. This non-ablative photothermal treatment stimulates new vessel formation (vascularisation), fibroblast activity, and new collagen formation in the vaginal tissue.

Over a course of sessions RenovaLase helps with increased epithelial thickness, improved tissue vascularisation, and a return of the natural moisture and lubrication mechanisms that oestrogen decline has suppressed.

Several clinical studies have demonstrated RenovaLase’s efficacy in reducing symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause –the clinical term for the spectrum of vaginal and urinary symptoms associated with oestrogen decline– with results lasting more than a year in most patients.

Results and treatment schedule

Improvement in symptoms is typically noticeable within a few days to weeks of the first session. Optimal results develop over 1 to 6 months following a standard course of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Results last more than a year in most patients. Annual maintenance sessions are recommended to sustain tissue health as oestrogen decline continues.

How Much Does RenovaLase Cost?

RenovaLase starts from $1000 per session at Prologue and is inclusive of a pap smear. The final cost depends on your skin condition, the number of sessions recommended, and the extent of treatment required, all of which are assessed and discussed during your consultation before any commitment is made.

FAQ

Can RenovaLase replace topical oestrogen?

For women who cannot use oestrogen due to a history of hormone-sensitive cancer or personal preference,RenovaLase offers a clinically validated non-hormonal alternative. Clinical studies show it to be effective for reducing genitourinary syndrome of menopause symptoms including dryness, discomfort, and recurrent UTIs. Whether it is more or less appropriate than topical oestrogen depends on your specific health context, which Dr Sue will discuss with you at consultation.

No. RenovaLase is delivered in a non-ablative SMOOTH mode specifically designed for patient comfort. Most patients describe only mild warmth during treatment. No anaesthesia is required.

A standard course of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended. Improvement in symptoms is noticeable after the first session, with optimal results developing over the full course. Annual maintenance sessions help sustain tissue health.

Completely normal, and more common than most women realise. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause affects an estimated 50 to 60% of postmenopausal women – but because it is rarely discussed, many women assume they are experiencing something unusual. At Prologue, this is a routine part of what we treat, and Dr Sue is specifically trained in women’s health at this life stage. You will not need to explain or justify yourself.

Yes, and for women who have both vaginal atrophy and laxity, this is a common and effective combination. RenovaLase is typically performed first to restore tissue health and thickness, followed by IntimaLase for additional tightening once the tissue is in better condition. Dr Sue will advise on the appropriate sequence for your symptoms.

Yes. This treatment is considered safe for women who are breastfeeding. If you have any specific concerns, please mention this at your consultation and our doctor will advise accordingly.

We recommend waiting until at least 6 months postpartum before beginning treatment. This allows your body adequate time to recover from delivery and for your hormone levels to begin stabilising, both of which influence how your skin responds to treatment and the results you can expect.
